I've been exploring the Fediverse lately. Not because I'm worried about privacy or making some political statement, but because I'm curious about how distributed social networks actually work. And also, having options feels better than being limited to whatever big tech companies offer.

Into the Fediverse

What I'm Running

This blog is part of the Fediverse. I'm using a self-hosted Hatsu instance that bridges my blog posts into ActivityPub. You can follow this blog at @[email protected]. It's part of my self-hosting setup running on a DigitalOcean droplet.

Mastodon as my Twitter/X alternative. I'm on @[email protected].

Pixelfed as Instagram alternative for photos. You can find me at @[email protected].

I also have an account on Meta's Threads (@[email protected]), and recently enabled its Fediverse (ActivityPub) sharing feature. Turns out it's one-way only. You can push your Threads posts to the Fediverse, but you can't interact back.

Where This Is Going

I don't have big lessons to share yet. I'm just letting you know what I'm up to and where you can find me in the Fediverse if you want to follow along.
